When you first install RAID, you’ll play through the tutorial and choose one of four starter champions: Kael, Elhain, Galek, or Athel.

The correct choice is always Kael.

Why Kael? His AOE poison damage scales into endgame (Clan Boss, Dragon, Dungeons). The others fall off hard.

Ignore anyone saying “all starters are viable.” They aren’t if you want to progress efficiently.

He’s your second champion, alongside Kael..

Most importantly: his self-revive passive (immortal in Campaign/Arena) unlocks at Ascension Level 3.

Gear: Give him the other two Lifesteal artifacts or deck him out in the attack gear you have to start with.

Example:

At Rank 4 unascended, Wukong feels average — doesn’t revive.

Ascend him to ascencion 3, suddenly he comes back to life after being killed, it means you don’t fail runs just because he dies mid-wave. This is needed to complete campaign on Brutal and claim a Sacred Shard.

Campaign is the backbone of early progression. Your goal is to 3-star each stage (no deaths, all champs alive, within 10 minutes). This unlocks campaign farming, where you’ll farm food champions to rank up your main heroes.

Strategy

Push through Normal Campaign with Kael + Wukong.

Always bring “food” champions (1-2 star commons/uncommons) so they level while you farm.

Prioritize 12-3 Brutal

Don’t waste resources fully gearing food champs. Just feed them straight away.

Early Gear Focus:

Kael: Lifesteal + Speed set.

Wukong: Any decent Attack/Crit gear early, swap into Speed/Crit later.

Support (Apothecary/Warpriest): Speed + HP.

To unlock Wukong’s revive, you must ascend him to level 3.

How to do it:

Farm Potion Keeps on their respective days, they rotate daily but you have unlimited access to all the keeps for 1 week when starting an account on Raid: Shadow Legends. Take advantage of this!!

Use Arcane Potions (always farmable) + his Affinity Potions (Force).

Early missions and challenges will push you into Potion Keeps anyway, so it lines up.

##Arena Strategy

Arena unlocks after the tutorial. Most new players hit a wall fast because they don’t build Speed. So starting out try to get speed boots on your champions and use Sun Wukong as your leader for his bonus speed to all allies in the arena.

The meta is simple:

Speed wins fights.

Then land Debuffs (DEF Down).

Then Nuke with AoE damage.

Beginner Arena Team Example:

Speed Lead/Booster: Apothecary

Debuffer: Warmaiden (farmable from campaign, AoE DEF Down)

Nuker: Kael

Second Damage/Utility: Wukong

Even a basic team like this can climb into Silver Arena just by going first.
